Hornsby’s interest in acting started when he auditioned for a spring musical and landed the role in The Wiz as the Scarecrow. After completing his education he was cast in Off-Broadway productions of To Kill a Mockingbird as the leading role of Atticus Finch as well as Joe Louis Blues, and Six Degrees of Separation

Films, Series

In the late 1990s, he moved to Los Angeles to transition to TV and films. Since then Russell Hornsby has starred in films Meet the Parents (2000), Big Fat Liar (2002), Something New (2006), LUV (2016), Creed II (2018), etc.

In the TV series, Hornsby has had appearances in Girlfriends (2001), Playmakers (2003), Grey's Anatomy (2005), The Good Wife (2010), Grimm (2011-2017), and Seven Seconds (2018). Russell Hornsby portrayed lead characters Eddie Sutton in Lincoln Heights (2007-2009), and Lincoln Rhyme in Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector (2020).
