Who is Shane Gillis?
Shane Gillis is a comedian, podcaster by profession, and American by nationality. He became known for being hired to work on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live but was fired before his debut performance when clips from his podcast with racial and homophobic slurs resurfaced.

Shane Gillis’ birth took place on 12 December 1988 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania United States. His father's name is Phil Gillis while the name of his mother is not known.

Education, Ethnicity
He was educated at Trinity High School, where he played football as an offensive tackle. After graduating in 2006, he was selected to play football at the United States Military Academy. However, he did not complete his higher education and dropped out before completing basic training. Instead, he joined Temple University and obtained a degree in history.

Early Career
After graduating from university, Shane Gillis moved to Spain, where he worked briefly as a teacher. In 2012, he began to perform comedy in Harrisburg and later relocated to Philadelphia. While performing at the Good Good Comedy Theatre, he met fellow comedian Matt McCusker.
In July 2019 he was included in Just For Laugh's 2019 new faces.
SNL, Podcast
In 2016, Shane Gillis and Matt McCusker began their own podcast- Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast. He also began a weekly show A Fair One. Following his performance at the 2019 Comedy Central's Clusterfest, Shane Gillis was named "Up Next" comedian by Comedy Central.
The same year he had the opportunity to perform at the Just for Laughs comedy festival where he became a well-known figure. On September 12, 2019, Saturday Night Live (SNL) announced that Shane Gillis would be joining season 45 of the show.

Controversy
But just hours later, freelance comedy reporter Seth Simons posted clips from Gillis’ 2018 Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast in which he had made racist and mocking remarks about Chinese people and even ranked comedians by race, gender, and sexual orientation and used homophobic slurs.
This controversy resulted in Shane Gillis getting fired from SNL before making his SNL debut and also from Good Good Comedy Theatre. Gillis also posted on Twitter saying he is a “comedian who pushes boundaries”, and sometimes he “misses”.
