This was followed by small roles in the films As Good as It Gets (1997), The Siege (1998), Committed (2000), Remember the Titans (2000), Train Ride (2000), and in the episodes of the TV series NYPD Blue (1996), OZ (1997), New York Undercover (1998).
Finally, in 2002, Wood Harris was cast in the TV series The Wire as Avon Barksdale. He portrayed the recurring character from 2002 to 2008 in a total of 38 episodes which is considered his breakthrough role.
