Who is Yael Stone?

Yael Stone is an Australian actress who has made it all the way to Hollywood. Amongst all her work, she is best known for the portrayal of inmate Lorna Morello in Orange Is the New Black.

Yael Stone – Age, Parents, Siblings

Yael Stone was born on 6 March 1985 in Sydney, Australia to parents Harry Stone, an architect, and Judy Stone, a nurse. Her parents are  Holocaust survivors. Her father is from a Jewish family while her mother converted to Judaism. Stone has two siblings- brother Jake Stone who was the lead singer of the band Bluejuice and a sister named Elana Stone, who is a musician as well.

Education, Ethnicity

Stone attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and after graduation, she enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

Her ethnicity includes Ashkenazi-Jewish and English.

Yael Stone – Boyfriend, Husband, Children, Divorce, Affair

Yael Stone married her boyfriend Dan Spielman, an Australian actor on 20 August 2012. All seemed to go well for the couple for the next 5 years. But in July 2017, Stone announced that she and Spielman had ended their marriage over a year ago.

Stone moved on to date Jack Manning Bancroft,  AIME Mentoring founder. On 23 November 2017, they accounted that they were expecting their first child together. Initially, Yael Stone and Jack Manning Bancroft had planned to give birth at home. But after going into labor for 18 hours, they decided to go to the hospital.

Stone was immediately rushed off for an emergency C-section. Their baby girl Pemau Stone Bancroft was born on 30 May 2018. She gave birth to their second child in September 2022.

Yael Stone – Career

Early Days

Yael Stone’s career in acting started young. She was, in fact, a child actor. Her early roles were in the film Me Myself I (1999)and the miniseries The Farm (2001).  As she grew up, her acting skills improved and she landed bigger roles. Until 2008, she had worked in films and TV shows such as West (2007), among others.

After her breakout role in The Kid (2008), she diverged to other movies.

Films, Series

Since then she has worked in Jailbirds (2011) as Lucy, and The Wilde Wedding (2017) as Clementine. In the Television section, Stone has appeared in All Saints (2007–2008), Spirited (2010-2011), Orange Is the New Black (2013- present), Childhood's End (2015), High Maintenance (2015-2018), Deep Water (2016), Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero (2017), Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018).

She is also co-founder of The Cannery.

On the set of Orange Is the New Black, Yael Stone has worked with Catherine Curtin, Danielle Brooks, Kimiko Glenn, Natasha Lyonne.

In the  2008 Sydney Theatre Awards, Stone was awarded  Best Newcomer and Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Kid.

Yael Stone – Sexual harassment

With all the #Metoo movement going on, Stone has put her voice into the cause too. She accused Geoffrey Rush of sexual harassment numerous times in 2010. She said that he had exposed himself to her, sent her sexually proactive messages, and also used a mirror to spy on her while she showered.

Speaking on the issue, Stone said, “Not all #MeToo stories are the same. Each dynamic is different. For some, a criminal process is essential. In my case, I’m not interested in punishment. I am looking to change my industry and to work toward healing and growth.”

In response Rush released a statement, “From the outset, I must make it clear that the allegations of inappropriate behavior made by Yael Stone are incorrect and in some instances have been taken completely out of context. However, clearly, Yael has been upset on occasion by the spirited enthusiasm I generally bring to my work. I sincerely and deeply regret if I have caused her any distress. This, most certainly, has never been my intention.”
