Homophobia

It’s no big deal, except for the fact that he voted against adding “sexual orientation, gender identity, gender, and disability” to the federal hate crime protection groups while serving as the United States Representative for Illinois’ 18th congressional district from 2009 until 2015.

He also voted against the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

For his homophobic political views and for opposition to LGBTQ equality, he once earned a 0 percent approval rating from the Human Rights Campaign.

The anti-gay Republican was reported to have regular young men visiting his DC apartment and in 2014 journalist Itay Hod had claimed he had walked in on his male roommate and Aaron Schock showering together.

Federal charges

Schock resigned after being accused of illegally using campaign funds to finance his lifestyle of elite clothes, interior decoration, and Instagram photos.

One of the defenses Shock had used to wiggle out of corruption charges for his unexplained expenses while in office was that the federal investigators had asked his friends and family about his sexual orientation.

The investigators were trying to find out that the photographer Schock kept on staff was actually his boyfriend. The prosecutors later dropped charges against Schock in early April 2019.

The response

People were outraged, not because Aaron Schock was making out with a guy, but because of his activity against LGBTQ people.
