Mark Hoppus, the bass guitarist of the rock band Blink-182 has revealed that he has cancer.

The 49-year-old musician shared a photo of himself on Instagram which showed him in a hospital setting with an IV in his arm.

“Hello, yes. One cancer treatment please,” he wrote. Although he was quick to delete the said post, concerned fans had saved screenshots of the post.

Hours later, he took to Twitter to confirm the devastating news, “For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this.”

“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive. Can’t wait to be cancer-free and see you all at a concert in the hopefully near future. Love to you all,” Hoppus added.

Blink-182, which was formed in California in 1992, had its breakthrough with its third album Enema of the State, released in June 1999. Their music video for What’s My Age Again? depicted band members Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge jogging naked in the streets of Los Angeles.

Hoppus has been married to MTV executive Skye Hoppus (née Everly) since December 2, 2000, and has a son named Jack (born in 2002).
