Dax Shepard keeps drug tests at home after relapse

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Dax Shepard is now keeping drug tests at home so Kristen Bell can test him whenever she decides to. The revelation comes following his recent relapse after 16 years of sobriety.

His wife, actress Kristen Bell, said in a new interview with Self magazine, “[He said,] ‘You can drug-test me whenever you want. I’m going to buy some tests. I’m going to have them in the house. If you ever feel nervous, I want you to have access to this and I’ll do it, no questions asked.”

Bell, who married Shepard in 2013, further added that she has yet to ask him to take the test.

“He’s just good at trying, and that’s all you can ask of anyone. No one’s perfect,” Bell, 40, continued. “He’s proven to me that he is committed to evolving and he loves personal growth.”

In September 2020 Shepard, 46, had shared on his podcast that he had relapsed. He had been taking pills daily following several motorcycle injuries and became “shadier and shadier” about the pill intake.

A month later Bell had addressed her husband’s relapse on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“He is actually doing really great. I mean look, everybody’s up against their own demons. Sometimes it’s anxiety and depression, sometimes it’s substance abuse and the thing I love most about Dax is a) he was able to tell me and tell us and say we need a different plan.” the mother of two- daughters Lincoln, 8, and Delta, 6, said on the show.

Despite the relapse, the couple is still going but has re-entered therapy.
