Diplo’s sex assault lawsuit dropped by accuser

Last Modified: 9th Sep

Thomas Wesley Pentz, known professionally as Diplo, is free of sexual assault charges. The woman accused the DJ and producer of coercing her into performing oral sex and filming it against her will.

The unnamed woman said through her attorney Joe Ortuno, “In light of the evidence and after consultation with my attorneys, I have decided to withdraw my lawsuit. No payment was offered or requested. I regret filing the lawsuit.”

In the lawsuit which was filed in Clark County, Nevada last week, the accuser claimed that Diplo plied her with weed and booze after a 2019 Las Vegas gig. She had further claimed that he "invited her to a room, kicked out her friends, and would not let her leave until she performed oral sex."

In the wake of the lawsuit, TMZ reported that the lawyers of the 42-year-old songwriter had dismissed the suit as a “shakedown.”

Lawyer Bryan Freedman said in a statement, “As we said when we first learned of this lawsuit, there was absolutely irrefutable evidence that proved that the allegations it contained were false. As soon as we shared that plethora of evidence with the plaintiff’s lawyers, they recognized that they needed to withdraw their suit immediately.”

This is not the first time Diplo has been involved in the conspiracy. In November 2020, a woman named Shelly Auguste was granted a restraining order against him. She alleged that he distributed revenge p**n of her after she accused him of grooming her and other "very young girls." She also accused him of hiring a private investigator. to "scare [her] into remaining silent about [their] relationship" and to "scare other women out of coming forward", and threatening others who supported her. Court documents revealed that they had met in 2014 when she was 17 and he was 36 and had begun trading sexually explicit images and had an intimate relationship.

In addition to other women claiming similar allegations, rapper Azealia Banks,  in the fifth episode of her Soundcloud podcast, Cheapys Two Cents- also accused Diplo of helping her start her career in exchange for sexual favors when she was underage. Banks had been discovered by Diplo when on social media when she was 17.
