Last Modified: 9th Sep

Former child beauty pageant contestant Alana Thompson has revealed that she has decided to undergo surgery for weight loss and will be traveling to the Big Apple for the procedure. She has further spoken of her plans that will be in motion shortly after her 17th birthday.

The 16-year-old Honey Boo Boo star has chosen one of New York’s top weight-loss doctors Steven Batash to get a suture to sculpt endoscopic sleeve.

According to the child reality star, she has exercised and has tried a healthy diet but the results she is getting are not like she wanted.

The surgery’s target is to slim down Thompson from her current weight of 275 pounds to 150 pounds, according to her manager Gina Rodriguez. Sources also shared that Thompson believes her weight gain is due to her genetics and sees the surgical procedure, which costs around $13,000, as the only viable route to a healthy life.

Lauryn Shannon, aka Pumpkin, who is her guardian and sister has said that she supports the decision. Shannon, 22, was awarded custody after their mother got arrested for drug possession and paraphernalia in 2019. Moreover, Thompson's boyfriend (rumored fiance) Dralin Carswell also vocalized his support.

Police had arrested “Mama” June Shannon, 42, at an Alabama gas station on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Meanwhile, her then-boyfriend Geno Doak was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, domestic abuse, and drug paraphernalia.

According to the siblings, the incident led to a strained relationship with their mother. Pumpkin was eventually made Thompson’s legal guardian in April 2022.
