Maya Henry reveals she had abortion - when dating ex-fiance Liam Payne - via a novel

The former fiancée of One Direction member Liam Payne, Maya Henry, has revealed she had a medical abortion a few years back. 

She disclosed her traumatic experience during an interview while promoting her new book Looking Forward, and it seems she underwent the procedure while dating the singer.

The former model pointed out that the novel is fictional but is “definitely inspired” by real-life events from her own life.

In the book, a chapter includes the main character Mallory, and her boyfriend Oliver, who is a charming British pop star. It details Mallory’s severe complications after undergoing an abortion.

The 23-year-old told People, “What I went through in real life is very similar to what Mallory went through in the book. I definitely did have some complications [following my abortion], and I did have to go to the hospital alone.”

However, the author did not reveal the exact timeframe for when she had an abortion or who was the father of her would-be child.

In the book, the main character Mallory undergoes abortion when dating Oliver.

The fictional character Oliver also rises to fame after being paired with a group on a TV show - a striking resemblance to ex-fiance Liam Payne who gained his fame after being included in One Direction, an all-boy group formed on The X Factor.

In Looking Forward, Oliver gives her an ultimatum - either to terminate her pregnancy and stay with him or raise the child as a single mother.

Years after the abortion, Henry shares that she found herself in the same situation and now regrets terminating her baby.

She reflected, “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have done it. But then also, if I were to have made a different decision, then I would’ve lost the person that I loved. There were definitely difficult conversations about it. But looking back now, things happen for a reason.”

Henry was first linked to Payne, 30, in 2018 and got engaged to him in 2020.

They quarantined together during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, briefly broke up in 2021, and were separated in 2022.

The pair rarely talked about their relationship.

In a 2021 interview with the Diary of a CEO podcast, Payne admitted that he had “not been very good at relationships.”

Following his relationship with Henry, he briefly dated Aliana Mawla. He has been in a relationship with Kate Cassidy since October 2022.

Payne is also a father to son Bear, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend and former The X Factor judge Cheryl Cole.

Although Henry did not disclose her current relationship status, she did reveal that she and Payne are on good terms and regularly maintain contact.
