Victoria’s Secret is famous for its exotic designed lingerie and of course top slender models. With all the changes that are going on in recent years, the iconic lingerie brand has too decided to embrace a change in its choice of models.
After 53 of their stores were closed last year due to failing figures, the company’s new director, Amy Hauk decided to change a few in the brands. The company has recruited a "curvy" model Lorena Duran to walk the ramp!
If you look at the Spanish model she is "curvier" than the brand's other models but none the less gorgeous. The 25-year-old Spanish beauty took to Instagram on April 11, 2019, to write,
“I am happy and proud of this new job. It's time for diversity. Thanks to all the team @victoriassecret for making my dreams come true.”
Duran has worked as a model since she was 17 years old in Andalusia, Spain while working in a clinical laboratory. Since then she has modeled for brands such as Asos, Zalando, El Corte Ingles, Intimissimi, Violeta by Mango. Moreover, she has also worked with Sofia Vergara on the actress’ new collection.
But her road to stardom was not “smooth”. She was diagnosed with a hormonal problem that changed her metabolism and as a result, her size changed from 36 to 42. So, she left modeling for a while before finally accepting her body and returned to modeling.
Lorena Duran made her big comeback in New York, the United States where she began to be hired by international brands.
Recently, Victoria’s secret also recruited Alexina Graham, making her the first red-haired Victoria’s secret angel. However, the brand has not been far from controversy on the female sizes that they call “curvy”.
Only a while ago, it has recruited Hungarian model Barbara Palvin as the curvy model. Palvin whose size is 87-58-89 centimeters, 1.75 meters height and 55 kg was called “curvy” which raised both eyebrows and concerns.
Duran too stands 1.75 meters tall and weighs 55 kilos with the size 90-70-115 and is considered “curvy” by the brand’s rule books.
At present, the fashion industry believes that models that exceed 40 sizes are plus size. The best known professional model is Ashley Graham who is size 46 and is one of the most desired models. Graham who has not only raised her voice for activism but also for body shaming has said,
“It does not matter if you have a size 32 or 52, you can be healthy whenever you take care of your body, work and tell yourself: I love you, instead of accepting the negativity of beauty standards.”
