The announcement

“Mayor Pete” who officially launched 2020 presidential campaign on April 15, 2018, revealed their personal plan at a rally in Brooklyn. When asked about his views on paid family leave, he replied,

In an interview with MSNBC late Monday, he also added that his presidential campaign had slowed down his plans to welcome a child,

"This running for president has slowed down the path. Chasten, my husband, he is made for a lot of things. He is a great educator. He has become a great public figure, coming out of the gate. He is going to be an amazing father. I can't wait to see -- I hope I will be good at it, too. I can't wait to see him have that chance."

Married Life

Buttigieg married the love of his life, Chasten Glezman, a junior high school teacher on June 16, 2018, at the Cathedral of Saint James Episcopal Church in South Bend, which only became possible due to one Supreme Court vote. He shared,

"I now live in a world where people take photos of me in the deodorant aisle at the grocery store. It's not lost on me that I was able to marry the man I love by the grace of one Supreme Court vote."

In 2015, Pete Buttigieg had come out as gay which made him the first openly gay municipal executive in Indiana. He also spoke highly of his husband,

“Being married to Chasten has made me a better human being because it has made me more compassionate, more understanding, more self-aware and more decent. My marriage to Chasten has made me a better man. And yes, Mr. Vice President (Pence), it has moved me closer to God.”

Pence had opposed legalizing gay marriage and had attended a church affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America.
