Rapper DMX in ‘vegetative state’ after overdose, family asking for prayers, bikers pay tribute outside NY hospital
Rapper DMX’s family is asking for prayers as he is in a “vegetative state” following a drug overdose and heart attack last week.
“We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” the family of the DMX, born Earl Simmon, wrote in a statement released by People.
His manager Nakia Walker told The New York Times on Sunday that DMX is “still in the same condition — in a vegetative state, [with] lung and brain failure and no brain activity.”
Murray Richman, DMX’s lawyer told the outlet that the rapper had lived a “difficult life” and used music as an outlet. He added, “He expressed the pain and suffering in a very unique way. He truly is reflective of a whole segment of our society whose pain and suffering go unrecorded. He is truly an amazing person. He walked into a room, he lit up the room. He couldn’t help making you feel good in his presence.”
According to the video posted on Twitter by Fox 5, bikers sporting gear from his “Ruff Ryders” collective gathered around White Plains Hospital in Westchester where the 50-year-old DMX lies on life support. They also shared their plans to hold a prayer vigil on Monday.
