Amateur boxer
During his amateur years, Andy Ruiz Jr. boxed to a 105-5 record under Cuban trainer Fernando Ferrer. He won two Mexican National Junior Olympics gold medals and World Ringside Heavyweight Championship.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games qualification tournaments, he represented Mexico in two games but lost to Cuba’s Robert Alfonso and Colombia’s Oscar Rivas.

Early Career
Andy Ruiz Jr. began his professional career at the age of 19. His debut game was on March 28, 2009, at the Plaza de Toros in Tijuana, Baja California against Miguel Ramirez. He won the fight with a first-round KO.
In several games that followed saw Andy Ruiz Jr. win via KO. He played against Ross Brantley, Juan Luis Lopez Alcaraz, Luke Vaughn, Miles Kelly, Raymond Lopez, Francisco Diaz, Kelsey Arnold, Angel Herrera, Villi Bloomfield, Elijah McCall, etc.
In 2013, Andy Ruiz Jr. won the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title after defeating Joe Hanks, (North American Boxing Federation) NABF heavyweight title defeating Tor Hamer, WBO World heavyweight against Siarhei Liakhovich.
In recent years, Ruiz has fought against Ray Austin (May 2016), Joseph Parker (December 2016), Devin Vargas (2018), Kevin Johnson (July 2008), and Alexander Dimitrenko (2019).
He defeated the unbeaten Anthony Joshua on 1st June 2019.
