Amateur Years
Jacobs first started his career in boxing as an amateur, recording 137 wins and 7 losses. He had won a series of boxing competitions including the 2003 Junior Olympics national championship and in the year 2004 won the United States national champion in the 19–and–under division, the National Golden Gloves welterweight championship, and a PAL national championship.
The year 2005 was also fruitful for Daniel Jacobs as he won his second PAL national championship, the National Golden Gloves middleweight championship. Over the course of his amateur career, he won four New York Golden Gloves championships.

Professional Career
Jacobs made his professional debut on December 8, 2007, against Jose Jesus Hurtado, which he won by first-round technical knockout in just 29 seconds. After signing with Golden Boy Promotions he has fought against James Kirkland, Ishe Smith, and Dmitry Pirog.
After 19 months of treatment and recovery for osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, Daniel Jacobs returned to boxing on October 20, 2012. In the WBA (Regular) middleweight he has had matches against Peter Quillin, Gennady Golovkin, Luis Arias, Maciej Sulecki, Serhiy Derevianchenko, etc.
He won the fight against Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
