Who is Dr. Mike?

Dr. Mike, born Mikhail Varshavski, is a celebrity doctor and YouTuber. He rose to fame after he was featured in Buzzfeed as well as People magazine's 2015 issue of The Sexiest Doctor Alive. His YouTube channel gives out medically-themed entertainment.

Dr. Mike – Age, Parents, Siblings

Dr. Mike’s birth took place on November 12, 1989, in Saransk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Russia). He was born Mikhail Varshavski to a Russian father who worked as a physician and a Russian mother who was a mathematics professor. 

When he was just five years old, his family immigrated to Brooklyn, USA. In the United States, his mother had to work sweeping floors for minimum wage while his father had to attend medical school for the second time. 

He is not the only child of his parents and has a sibling, an older sister named Dasha. Now Dr. Mike is an uncle to his three nephews Daniel, Steven, and Ari.

Education, Ethnicity

In his high school years, he was nicknamed Doctor Mike by his friends. As they knew Dr. Mike’s father was a doctor, they came to him for sports-related injuries. After graduating from New Dorp High School he went on to study at the New York Institute of Technology. He studied and earned a bachelor's degree in life sciences and a doctoral degree in osteopathic medicine. 

During his first year in college, his mother died of leukemia. So he moved back in with his father and his pet dog Roxy, who is of the Husky breed.

His ethnicity is Russian.

Dr. Mike – Girlfriend, Wife, Children

The doctor was in a relationship with Miss Universe winner Pia Wurtzbach. Having dated for a while the couple eventually broke up. Varshavski went on to date Jennifer Lahmers for two years before splitting up.

He was rumored to be in a relationship with the Cuban-born model Betsy Alvarez. However, sources revealed that he and Alvarez were just colleagues and had never actually dated.

Currently, he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend Breda Tabberer. He and his fiancée have been dating since 2018. Although the couple has maintained their privacy, they shall announce their engagement and wedding in the near future.

Early Days

In early 2012 Dr. Mike joined Instagram to document his life as a medical doctor. His motivation was to combat the conception that "you can't have a life in medical school". 

Also while in high school, he struggled to talk to girls, was disorganized, and was unable to speak well in public. However, in college, he put himself outside his comfort zone.

Hot Doctor

In August 2015, Dr. Mike was featured in Buzzfeed’s article Um, You Really Need To See This Hot Doctor And His Dog, highlighting his good looks and friendship with his dog Roxy. Also, the same year in November People magazine named him the Sexiest Doctor Alive. Soon enough his Instagram account went viral.

Dr. Mike joined YouTube on Aug 18, 2016. As of February 2020, he has around 422 million views. His videos are mostly categorized under medically-themed entertainment with around 5 million subscribers.

On TV he has had appearances on Mornings with Maria Bartiromo (2017-2020), Fox and Friends (2018), The Doctors (2018), Rachael Ray (2017), and as a guest in Today (2017, 2019), Live! with Kelly (2018, 2019), etc.

Moreover, in late 2015 he established a foundation, Limitless Tomorrow which provides scholarships to students. The dating app Coffee Meets Bagel collaborated with him to raise funds. The campaign, a $10 raffle for a date with Varshavski was able to raise $91,000 for his foundation.
