Who is Hannibal Buress?

Hannibal Buress is one of the most well-known comedians in the world. Overall he is known for his roles in movies, often playing the comical character.

Hannibal Buress was born on February 3, 1983, in Chicago, Illinois, the U.S.A. as Hannibal Amir Buress. His mother Margaret Buress worked as a teacher while his father John Buress worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was raised in the Austin neighborhood, of Chicago with his older sister.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, Buress joined Steinmetz College Prep from which he also graduated. He then enrolled in Southern Illinois University Carbondale but soon dropped out. His ethnicity is African-American.

Hannibal Buress is a “love guru”! He is said to have been helping people in their love life, giving dating tips, and so on.

But the irony is that he is a single man himself! In fact, he has never revealed his relationship status to the public. Although he has tweeted or shared now and then he has a wife and is married. Say, as per this tweet.

Hannibal Buress – Career

Early Days

The year 2002 marked the start of Buress’ career in stand-up comedy. He was still attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale then. Dropping out of college, he moved to New York and lived with his sister and her family. He was then forced to sleep on the subway for a short time as his sister kicked him out of the house.

Buress is a comedy writer too and has written for Saturday Night Live (2009-2010), and NBC’s 30 Rock (September 2010- February 2011). 

He has appeared in Comedy Central’s The Awkward Comedy Show, FX’s Louie, Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show, Broad City, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lopez Tonight, among others.

Buress’ comedy albums include My Name is Hannibal (July 27, 2010), Animal Furnace (2012), Live from Chicago (2014), Comedy Camisado (2016), and Hannibal Takes Edinburgh (2016). Camisado has been streaming on Netflix. Buress has his own podcast, Handsome Rambler.

In 2017, Buress tried his hands at acting as well. He portrayed the role of Coach Wilson in the Marvel movie Spider-Man: Homecoming. But he was not there to attend the film’s premiere. Instead, he paid a look-alike to attend the show. Also, Buress has starred in Baywatch, Neighbours, Neighbours 2, The Nice Guys, The Kings of Summer (2013), TAG (2018), Blockers (2018), and lent his voice to The Secret Life of Pets and Angry Birds.

On the set of Blockers, Buress has worked with Geraldine Viswanathan, Kathryn Newton, Graham Phillips, Miles Robbins, and Gina Gershon.

Hannibal Buress – Controversy, legal issues

In December 2017, he was arrested for disorderly intoxication in Miami. He was filmed mocking the police and demanding to know why he has been arrested. The police claimed that he was arrested because he approached the police asking them to call an Uber for him!

Later Buress released a statement saying, "I asked the [officer] to call me an Uber, and he said, 'No.' He told me to leave the street. I go into this bar to get a phone charger for an Uber. He follows me into the bar, and told me I'm too drunk to go inside… 'If I can't be on the street, where do you want me to be?' I ask him. I was in a state of trying to get home….  I don't really believe I was at fault."

On October 16, 2014, he was recorded criticizing Bill Cosby amidst rape allegations. He accused Cosby of “talking down” to young black men and encouraged people to search “Bill Cosby rape”.

His accusations did not see the light until 6 months later his October video went viral.
