Talking about his childhood, he says, “As a kid, I was very shy. Painfully shy. My parents took me to therapy because I never spoke to anybody, kids, family, teachers, dead people, nobody. Now I get bummed out if I don't get the chance to talk to a whole bunch of strangers every night.”

Early Days
Just a few weeks after graduating from his high school, he began his career in stand-up comedy. His first performances were in the comedy clubs of Boston, Massachusetts.
To pursue his career, he moved to New York in 2006, working in clubs. Being a Comedian means putting your entire self out there! And List had a few bad experiences with them.
His big break came when he was featured on the show Conan, and The Late Show with David Letterman. In 2007, he performed at the prestigious HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival. The performance was greatly appreciated. List has also been featured in Live at Gotham (July 2008), Fox News Red Eye, The Artie Lange Show, Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, Vancouver Comedy Festival, and Oslo Comedy Festival.

TV Shows, Comedy albums
In 2015, he participated in NBC's Last Comic Standing and reached to the finals, but did not win the title. Around the same time, he had a deal with Comedy Central to record a half-hour comedy special.
Joe List’s comedy albums include So Far No Good and Are You Mad at Me?. In 2018, he released his Netflix special The Standups. In addition, he has starred in Quiet Desperation (2010), Bloopers (2011), etc.
List is a podcaster as well. Since 2013, along with fellow comedian Mark Normand, he has been hosting a weekly podcast called Tuesdays with Stories. He also makes regular guest appearances on Robert Kelly's You Know What Dude podcast.
Joe List has also hit the road with his tour bus. In 2016, he toured around the United States and Europe, opening for comedian Louis C.K.
