His ethnicity is Cuban. Nevertheless, for higher education, Compte studied at the State University of New York Purchase. Talking about his high school days, Maurice Compte revealed,

“I was an introvert and still am to some extent but for sure back then I had very little skills when it came to relating to other people, I’ve just never been a good person with small talk. When I was young I didn’t have that ability so when they would ask us to get up on stage and do an improve, I would just shut down and tell the teacher there is no way, I’ll just take the F and I thought for sure I was going to fail out of class.

 I was going through a lot of turmoil at home as well, my Grandmother was dying and in the hospital, so I would straight from the hospital to school and I was just under a lot of stress.”

Maurice Compte loves his privacy. Although he is famous, he has managed to keep his personal and private life off the radar. The fans did not know of his relationship status or if he had a girlfriend or a wife. So, due to the absence of his romantic affairs, people had begun to speculate he might be gay.

Only in 2018, did Maurice Compte reveal that he is actually a married man, a fact which shocked people. His wife is Nichole (Nikki) Gates and has been married to her for a while now. They have a son together as well, but he has not revealed the name of his young son. 

Maurice Compte posted a picture of his beloved wife and their son to his Instagram page on September 10, 2018. Currently, there are no rumors of them having extra-marital affairs or divorce. So, we assume that the couple is happy and content with their lives, raising their son.

Maurice Compte – Career

Early Days

Maurice Compte’s career in acting started in the year 1996. But he did not consider acting but rather had hoped to join the Marines. He had signed with  ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) but later got into acting after gaining a fine art credit required to graduate high school.

After that, Maurice Compte decided to take up acting as a career. Soon he was cast in the 1996 thriller The Substitute, which was followed by roles in Chicago Hope (1997), Pacific Blue (1997), NYPD Blue (1997–1999), Before Night Falls (2000), Dancing at the Blue Iguana (2000), Double Whammy (2001), Fidel (2002), All the Real Girls (2003), 24 (2003), End of Watch.

Films, Series

After years of landing roles in series and films, he was cast in the CSI series, namely CSI: Miami (2003), and CSI: NY (2005). Soon his acting skills were seen in the series E-Ring (2005*-2006), Wanted (2005), Burn Notice (2008), Monk (2009), Choke.Kick.Girl  (2010-2011), Criminal Minds (2013), Bones (2013), From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2016), Power  (2017), and Kevin Can Wait (2017), among others.

Of all the characters he has portrayed in his career span of over two decades, he is best known as Gaff in the Breaking Bad series and as Horacio Carrillo in Narcos (2015-2016). He is set to star in the upcoming movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which is set to be released this year in 2019.

In addition to being an actor, Maurice Compte is also a director. He has directed a short film titled Vamonos with Marina Valle, who also played his on-screen girlfriend.
