Initially, Numan Acar landed minor roles in short Turkish and German films such as Angelina, Linie X and in the TV series Fast Perfekt Verlobt, Nach so vielen Jahren, Mit einem Rutsch ins Glück, etc.
This was followed by roles in several films over the years including Lieben (2006), Run for Your Life! (2008), The Basement (2009), Kokowääh (2011), Schutzengel (2012), The Berlin File (2013).
He also portrayed roles in TV series SOKO Kitzbühel (2006), Dr. Psycho – Die Bösen, die Bullen, meine Frau und ich (2007), Menek?e ile Halil (2007), Homicide Unit Istanbul (2011), Cologne P.D. (2012).
Finally, in 2014, he landed his breakthrough role as a recurring character Haissam Haqqani in the TV series Homeland.
