After five years of marriage, the couple separated on September 4, 2007, only to reconcile a bit later. She filed for divorce on November 10, 2009, citing irreconcilable differences, and the divorce was finalized on 11 May 2011.

She was in a relationship with Marion Yates for five years, from 2010 to 2016.

O'Neal is the creator and producer of the reality series Basketball Wives. It follows the lives of wives, ex-wives, and girlfriends of professional basketball players. The show debuted in 2010 and continued until 2013. It was again revived in 2017.

She is also the executive producer of the spin-off series Basketball Wives LA, which aired from 2011 to 2016. She is the main cast of another reality TV series, Shaunie's Home Court, which follows the lives of her five children and family. In addition, she has had appearances in The Love Shaq (2009) and Dumb It Down (2014).

Moreover, Shaunie O'Neal has started a program Let’s Talk About It, and has worked with several organizations that help women and underprivileged children. She has also launched her own collection of footwear, partnering with Chinese Laundry.
