Mary-Kate Olsen’s birth took place on June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, California, U.S.A. Her mother Jarnette Jones worked as a personal trainer while her father David Olsen worked as a real estate developer and mortgage banker. 

She has a twin sister named Ashley Olsen, an older brother named Trent Olsen, and a younger sister named Elizabeth Olsen, who is also an actress. Olsen’s parents divorced in 1996 and his father remarried. Through her father’s second marriage, she has two step-siblings who are named Taylor Olsen and Jake Olsen.

For education, Mary-Kate Olsen attended Campbell Hall School. After graduation, in 2014, Mary-Kate Olsen along with her twin sister Ashley Olsen attended New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

Her ethnicity includes Norwegian, French, German, Italian, and Danish.

Olsen has been in a few high-profile relationships. She dated boyfriends Max Winkler (2002), David Katzenberg (2003-2004), Ali Fatourechi (2004), Stavros Niarchos (2005-2007),  Maxwell Snow (2006-2007), Lapo Elkann (2008), and  Nate Lowman (2008-2010).

In May 2012, she began to date Olivier Sarkozy and two years in March 2014 later the two were engaged. Olsen and Sarkozy married on November 27, 2015, in a private ceremony in New York City. 

In May 2020 it was reported that they were divorcing. Sources revealed that their marriage had run its course. After Sarkozy invited his ex-wife, his children, and his mother to move in during the Conoravirus pandemic, Olsen decided to end the marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2021.

Films, Series

Mary-Kate Olsen’s career started when she was still an infant. So, she basically grew up in front of millions of audiences. She along with her twin sister shared the role of Michelle Tanner in the sitcom Full House (1987-1995).

Aside from the role that launched the sister's career, Mary-Kate Olsen also starred in To Grandmother's House We Go (1992), Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993), How the West Was Fun (1994), It Takes Two (1995), Billboard Dad (1998), Two of a Kind (1998-1999), Sister, Sister (1997). In Sister, Sister the Olsen twins appeared alongside twin actresses Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry.

After Full House abruptly ended in 1995, the Olsen twins were cast in Passport to Paris (1999), Our Lips Are Sealed (2000), Winning London(2001), Holiday in the Sun (2001), So Little Time (2001–2002), Getting There (2002), When in Rome (2002), The Challenge (2003), Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), New York Minute (2004), among others.

In Mary-Kate Olsen’s solo career, she has portrayed roles in Factory Girl (2006), Weeds (2007), Samantha Who? (2008), The Wackness (2008), and Beastly (2011). 

In March 2012, the Olsen twins confirmed that they would now retire from acting and would instead focus on fashion. In 2015, it was announced that the spin-off series of Full House titled Fuller House will be produced. But the Olsen twins did not reprise their roles as Michelle Tanner.

Fashion, Business

In 1993, a limited liability company, Dualstar Entertainment Group was created for the Olsen twins products. In 2004, after their 18^th birthday, the sibling duo took control of Dualstar and became joint CEOs and presidents of the company.

They also created fashion labels- The Row, Elizabeth and James, Olsenboye, StyleMint, and a clothing line in Wal-Mart stores. The twins also have their own beauty line in Wal-Mart stores Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girls,  co-authored book Influence and  Elizabeth, and James perfume.

In addition, the Olsen twins have teamed up with numerous fashion brands to design footwear, purse, etc. They are also known for their philanthropic work which has showered them with praise, for their dedicated work.

On the set of Full House, Olsen worked with Jodie Sweetin, Candace Cameron Bure, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Andrea Barber, Lori Loughlin.

Other Interests

At the age of 6, Olsen began horseback riding. While in high school, she was on the school's equestrian team. For a brief period, while she moved to Manhattan, she stopped riding.

Eventually, she began horseback riding again. In 2013, her horse Marvelous won the 38th Hampton Classic Horse Show and the rider was James Anderson.
