Mike Birbiglia was born on June 20, 1978, in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, United States. His mother is Mary Jean and his father is Vincent Paul Birbiglia. He is the youngest of four siblings of his parents. His brother is Joe Birbiglia and his sisters are Gina and Patti Birbiglia.

Mike Birbiglia attended St. John's High School and St. Mark's School, graduating from the latter in 1996. After graduation, he attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University in 2000.

Mike Birbiglia is a happily married man. He is married to his longtime girlfriend Jen Stein and tied the knot on 7 July 2007. With his wife, he has a daughter named Oona Birbiglia, born in February 2015.

Mike Birbiglia – Career

Early Days

Mike Birbiglia strived to become a comedian since he was 16. During his college days, he performed as a member of the Georgetown Players Improv Troupe. In addition, he worked as a server in a comedy club and even began performing at The Improv in Washington, D.C. 

In 2000, he moved to New York. Two years later in 2002, his first popular appearance was on the Late Show with David Letterman. Eventually, he became a storyteller and worked as a semi-regular contributor to The Moth storytelling series in 2003. 

The very next year, he released his first album Dog Years. Other albums are My Secret Public Album, Volume 1a (2005), Two Drink Mike (2006), and My Secret Public Journal Live (2007).

TV shows, Podcast, Films

Mike Birbiglia opened a one-man show Sleepwalk with Me in 2008. The show was a major success and was directed into a film in 2012. In 2011, his one-man show My Girlfriend's Boyfriend was launched and toured for the same all across the United States. In 2016, his second film Don't Think Twice was released and his comedy special Thank God for Jokes was released on Netflix on February 28, 2017.

Birbiglia’s tour for The New One began in April 2017 and his podcast The Old Ones was featured in December 2017.                                  

He has also starred in the films Trainwreck, Going the Distance, Cedar Rapids, Your Sister's Sister, The Fault in Our Stars, Girls, Inside Amy Schumer, Broad City, and Orange Is the New Black.
