Early Days
Jaeger began his professional career as an actor while still a college student. His debut roles were in the episode of the TV series Law & Order (1999) and the TV film Double Platinum (1999). Post-graduation he worked in a casting office in New York and on several theatre productions of plays. He later moved to Los Angeles.

Some of Sam Jaeger’s early roles were in the TV series Girls Club (2002), NYPD Blue (2004), Eli Stone (2008-2009), and in the films Hart's War (2002), Lucky Number Slevin (2006), Catch and Release (2006).
His main role as Joel Graham in the TV series Parenthood is his breakthrough work. He starred in the series from 2010 to 2015, for a total of 99 episodes, among which he directed one.
